On My Wishlist (8)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where we list all the books we desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – If you want to know more, click here.

Starcrossed (Starcrossed, #1)

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
Hardcover: 496 pages
Release date: May 31st, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen
Goodreads Summary: How do you defy destiny?

Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
Beautiful cover with Intriguing story.
Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1)

Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
 Hardcover: 401 pages
Release date: February 9th, 2010
Publisher: Candlewick Press
Goodreads Summary: At the age of nine, Finnikin is warned by the gods that he must sacrifice a pound of flesh to save his kingdom. He stands on the rock of the three wonders with his friend Prince Balthazar and Balthazar's cousin, Lucian, and together they mix their blood to safeguard Lumatere.

But all safety is shattered during the five days of the unspeakable, when the king and queen and their children are brutally murdered in the palace. An impostor seizes the throne, a curse binds all who remain inside Lumatere's walls, and those who escape are left to roam the land as exiles, dying by the thousands in fever camps.

Ten years later, Finnikin is summoned to another rock--to meet Evanjalin, a young novice with a startling claim: Balthazar, heir to the throne of Lumatere, is alive. This arrogant young woman claims she'll lead Finnikin and his mentor, Sir Topher, to the prince. Instead, her leadership points them perilously toward home. Does Finnikin dare believe that Lumatere might one day rise united? Evanjalin is not what she seems, and the startling truth will test Finnikin's faith not only in her but in all he knows to be true about himself and his destiny.
It's Melina Marchetta's. I'm a hundred and one percent it's awesome.

  1. I've heard really good things about Finnikin but have never picked it up. One of these days I'm going to make time to read it.

  2. My sister finished Starcrossed yesterday and texted me to say "you have to read this!" Then I went to her house to get it and she asked me if I was going to read it immediately. I told her no, I have several books that I need to get through for reviews. And she said, well, I'm going to keep it then and re-read it. Apparently it's that good! lol!

  6. Hi, Dea! I've been a follower for a while, but haven't commented much...gotta change that!

I LOVE both of your picks!! I already own "Starcrossed", so I will be reading it -- hopefully soon. I featured it in one of my previous 'On My Wishlist' posts, by the way.

As for "Finnikin Rock", I'll have to order it pretty soon! For the moment, it's going straight into my "to read" bookshelf on Goodreads, and on my Amazon Wish List!

Thanks for featuring both of these books!! : )

    Here's my Wishlist post!
