Blog Tour: 10 Things the Bookish World Doesn't Know About Kate Evangelista + Giveaway

Good day internet fam! We've got here today on our blog Kate Evangelista, a Filipina author of the upcoming book No Love Allowed. Dea and I were so lucky that we got to meet her at Sarah J Maas signing last March, though we din't get to talk to her that much it was so nice to see her in the event and to interact with our blogger friends, it was like hitting two birds with one stone, but you know birds as the authors(heh). Anyway, so days before the signing I did joined on the blog tour for her upcoming book hosted by Xpresso Book Tours and asked about 10 things the bookish world doesn't know about her and fortunately we get to be a part of the book tour! So without further ado here are the 10 things you might want to know about Kate Evangelista and also don't forget to join in the giveaway below! Enjoy! =)

10. Six Cats
Yes, I have six cats, but there is a rational explanation for this. Sweetie came to me in January of 2015 and she changed my life forever. I wasn’t expecting to have a pet. In fact, I wasn’t even entertaining the idea of one. But I knew in my heart that something was missing in my life. Then came Sweetie. Two weeks later she got pregnant and on April 30, 2015 gave birth to five beautiful kittens. I told myself that I would only keep one and give away the rest. Ten days later, when they opened their little eyes I knew I was a goner. So I have six cats and they have made my life so much better.

9. In my heart I’m a Gilmore Girl
The Gilmore Girls was a series that changed my life. I immediately fell in love with Stars Hollow and wanted to move there when I grew up. Actually, I still want to move there. I wanted Lorelai to be my mother and I wanted to marry Logan. I have yearly marathons of all seven seasons, even if the seventh season kills me every time because of how awful it is. And, like all the GG fans, I wanted a movie. Just something that would give me closure. So imagine my eternal joy when it was announced that there would be four new episodes? I could die happy. But not before watching these eps, of course.

8. In my head I’m married to Dean Winchester
The moment I started watching Supernatural, I knew I was a fan for life. And Dean? My ideal man. Funny. Will save you from anything and everything, even the end of the world. Sexy. Stubborn. And makes eating anything look so hot. Crazy thing is? I love Dean, but I don’t like the actor who plays him in real life. How weird is that? Although, I will admit that I do cheat on Dean a lot. Specifically with Tom Hiddleston and Daryl Dixon.

7. I love pasta
Pasta is life. So when I gave up pasta for lent—that’s forty days without—I thought I would go crazy. Like I would start having dreams of bathing in tubs full of pasta or that I would sit in a restaurant that specifically serves only pasta and stare at all the people eating. I’m surprised I didn’t sleep walk and start sleep eating pasta. Or maybe I have and I just don’t know it. *gasp*

6. I love marathons
Not the sweaty kind. I guess I should say binge watching. I would horde episodes of my favorite shows and spend my whole weekend glued to the TV. This is especially true for anime. I LOVE anime. I’m an otaku through and through. Japan is the motherland. Sports anime. Romance anime. Dramas. Some horror. Love, love, love it!

5. Fashion
I don’t refer to myself as a fashionista but I do love clothes and looking at trends. Shoes are the first thing I think of buying when I have some extra cash. I don’t have a set personal style yet, but I think I’m slowly getting there. I’m more of a stick-to-classics girl who is not afraid to experiment with color. Boots are my go to shoe. Dark denim looks good on any body type. And every girl needs a good blazer. Cute dresses are also my thing. Oh and headbands. Since I have short hair they are my accessory of choice.

4. Eleven is my life number
I was born on the eleventh day of May. Year ’83. 8 + 3 = 11. My class number was eleven. My jersey number was eleven. The first letter of my name K is the eleventh letter. I have the number eleven tattooed on my left wrist. Basically, I know everything is going to be fine if I see the number eleven randomly that day. It’s kinda cool.

3. I love anything paranormal
I believe in ghosts, which is why I am a fan of Ghost Adventures. If you’re into creepy videos, subscribe to the Top5s channel on YouTube. I’ve watched each and every one of his vids. So good. Anything alien/UFO related I am down for. Documentaries, the Ancient Aliens show. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I’m also into scary movies but will cover my eyes at the scary bits.

2. Anything cute
I love anything cute, sparkly, and kitschy. Bring me to a store that sells stationary, notebooks, pens, accessories, basically anything that will make me go “Aww” and I will walk out with a bag of something. This may be my ultimate guilty pleasure because even if I don’t need another notebook I will buy one just because it’s pretty. I don’t need another headband because I only have one head but I will end up at the counter with three anyway. Bookmarks. I just discovered washi tape, so that’s another addiction I can’t stop. I think I need an intervention.

1. Audible
I read and write all day, so to give my eyes a rest I’ve switched to audio books when I “read” for pleasure. The great thing is Audible has this 30 Day trial where you get two free books. The first book I ever listened to was The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and I never looked back. The narrators at Audible are topnotch. It’s like those old radio shows. There is this one narrator who can do multiple voices. When you’re listening to the books he’s reading every character has their own unique voice. So good. Romance novels come to life in audiobook form. Trust me.

Alright, that’s 10 things the bookish community now knows about me. I do hope this little list gave you some insight into who I am. Thank you so much for hosting me here today and please grab a copy of No Love Allowed. It’s the perfect read when you’re looking for something light and swoon worthy.

Pre-Order: Amazon | Barnes and Nobles
On the picturesque island of Martha's Vineyard, there are two kinds of residents. Locals and Stays.

Local boy, Lane McCarthy, plans on spending his summer working at the country club to save money for college in the fall, while summer stay, Ashley Whitmore, and her elite group of friends are only there to play.

As the summer heat goes up on the island, so does the ante, when both Lane and Ashley must decide what they’re willing to wager in order to follow their dreams… and their hearts.

With stakes as high as the surf, and hopes as high as the midday sun, will they risk everything and go all in?

Excerpt:

Ashley

“Good afternoon and welcome to the Field House Grille. May I start you two off with drinks or an appetizer today?” The waiter’s voice startles me out of my conspiracy theories, and I resume perusing my menu.
“Yes, I’ll have a long island ice tea and a white wine spritzer for the lady.” Gregory orders with confidence. He’s only a year shy of the legal drinking age so he may pass as old enough to get served, but it’s obvious I’m not old enough to drink yet. “And then we’ll have an order of the calamari to start and for our entrees she’ll have the sea bass, and I’ll have the filet.” He shuts his menu and hands it back to the waiter with bravado.
“I’ll actually have a bottle of San Pellegrino please,” I say, staring at my menu, trying to avoid the embarrassment of being carded and then denied, or worse, my parents finding out I tried to order an alcoholic drink, at the club no less. “And what salad would you recommend?” I start to ask, but the words get caught in my throat when I finally look up and see the waiter.

      Whoa.
      He. Is. Gorgeous.

“Well…our house mixed salad is very popular. It’s locally grown organic and is fresh picked daily. It comes with a light raspberry vinaigrette dressing that can be tossed on or left on the side,” he says, holding my gaze.

“Oh. Yes. That sounds… yummy.” The words come out all breathy, and I’m immediately humiliated at the way I must have sounded.
Yummy. Breathy. Seriously, Ashley?
“Then on the side, miss?” the waiter asks, a faint smile playing on his lips.
“Yes, thank you,” I say, feeling my face flush with warmth.

Apparently Gregory Chase isn’t the only boy in town who can make a girl blush, and by the daggers Gregory’s shooting the poor guy with his eyes, he knows it too.
Gregory clears his throat and pulls the attention of the waiter back on him. “Fine. We’ll have one house salad with dressing on the side and an order of calamari to start.” Then with a dismissive flick of his hand, “Now, go fetch our drinks.”

Go fetch our drinks? Is he serious? How can he think it’s okay to speak to someone that way? But before I can say anything the cute waiter lets out an amused laugh that surprises me.
“I’m sorry sir, but I’m gonna have to see an ID first.” The waiter looks not at all sorry to ask, which makes me have to hide a smile.
“You have got to be kidding me,” Gregory starts. “I left it in the men’s locker room,” he explains, but his confidence is shaken. No one ever challenges Gregory.

“I’m sorry sir, but without a valid ID I’m not gonna be able to serve you, but I’ll be happy to wait here while you go and get it.” The waiter gives Greg a fake smile and then me a real one. He clearly is enjoying himself.

It’s evident Greg’s not going to get his way, so he finally concedes, but without an ounce of grace. “How about you take your eyes off my date, and go do your job.” He levels the waiter with his eyes. “And just bring me a damn coke while you’re at it.”

“Will do, sir,” the waiter says with artificial politeness, giving Gregory an almost imperceptible bow before turning around and leaving.
This time, I’m the one who gets caught watching one of the waitstaff walk away.

Lane

“Dude, I just busted some richie-rich for trying to order drinks underage, and he had the nerve to yell at me for looking at his date. Too bad for him, she was looking right back,” I say with a cocky laugh before giving Mario a high five. “Man, it’s the jerks like that, that always get everything in life—the money, the power, the girl. Probably has some big fat trust fund to pay for college too.”
“Sorry, man, but try not to let him get under your skin, amigo.”
I know Mario’s right, I should just let it go, but I’m sick and tired of Stays treating us locals like we’re nothing. And who the hell tells someone to ‘go fetch’? What am I? A dog? What an ass.
I drum my fingers against the metal counter at the pass until Mario rings the service bell with a grin and hands me their starters.

“Here, orders up and good luck.”
I give him a nod then try to shove my jealousy and anger down when I enter the dining room again, but I feel it hovering right on the surface. I take a deep breath before setting the calamari in the center of the table and the salad in front of the girl.
“Is there anything else I can get you right now?” I ask, and it’s hard to keep my eyes off of her long dark hair, her light green eyes and her legs that go on for miles. Maybe that douche had a point.
“No, I’m fine. Thank you,” she says politely, and I wonder why she’s on a date with such an ass-hat. Either way, girls like her don’t date boys like me. Unless they’re trying to piss off their parents, which is fine by me, but she doesn’t look like the rebellious type.
I turn to face him, lifting my eyebrows. “And you?” I ask because it’s my job.
“Yes, there is something you can do for me, how about you explain why my silverware is off of the floor.” He holds up his dinner fork, but I don’t understand what he’s talking about. Off the floor?

“Excuse me?” I reach for the fork to examine it. I personally set this table less than an hour ago, and the silverware hadn’t touched the ground. Why would it? But right before I’m able to take the fork from him for a closer look he opens his thumb and pointer finger letting the fork fall to the hardwood floor with a loud ping that echoes through the dining room.
“See.” He looks me right in the eyes, a smirk plastered across his smug face, challenging me.
You have got to be kidding me. This guy picked the wrong day.
I calmly pick the fork up off the ground, bring it to my mouth and spit on the tongs before lifting my apron and polishing it until it’s dry and shining. So much for not letting him get under my skin.

“My apologies, sir.” I place the fork back on the table in front of him like I’d accidentally brought out the wrong appetizer instead of spitting all over the dude’s silverware. “If there’s anything else I can do for you please let me know, otherwise your entrees will be out shortly.”

I watch his eyes go wide with shock before walking away looking cool, calm, and collected, even though on the inside I’m totally freaking out. This is not going to end well.

Spellbound Book Blitz + giveaway (INT)

The 12 Days of Magic book blitz for the YA Paranormal series, Spellbound, by Nikki Jefford. The Blitz runs from December 10th to December 21st, 2012. Today I participate on promoting the Spellbound Soundtrack. Check it out and enter for the giveaways below :)

Spellbound Book 1: Entangled - February 20th 2012

Two months after dying, seventeen-year-old witch Graylee Perez wakes up in her twin sister Charlene’s body.

Until Gray finds a way back inside her own body, she’s stuck being Charlene every twenty-hour hours. Her sister has left precise instructions on how Gray should dress and behave. Looking like a prep isn’t half as bad as hanging out with Charlene’s snotty friends and gropey boyfriend.

The “normals” of McKinley High might be quick to write her behavior off as post-traumatic stress, but warlock Raj McKenna is the only person who suspects Gray has returned from the dead.
Now Gray has to solve the mystery of her death and resurrection and disentangle herself from Charlene’s body before she disappears for good.

Spellbound Book 2: Duplicity - March 20th 2012

If Graylee Perez thought sharing a body with her twin sister was bad, dealing with a duplicate of herself is two times worse. Gray the second doesn’t seem to get that Lee’s boyfriend, Raj McKenna, is off limits. Then there’s the problem of Adrian Montez. He expects one of the Grays to be his.

Nearly a year later, the council is onto them for past misdeeds; Lee, along with the rest of the coven, has lost control of her powers; and Gray is being stalked by what looks like the Grim Reaper.

If they work together, they may stand a chance of setting things right and making it out alive.

Spellbound Book 3: Enchantment - April 2013

In the third and final installment of the Spellbound series, Graylee Perez (the duplicate), goes to Spain for a summer of escape. There she meets new friends and comes face to face with her old adversary, Adrian Montez.

When Gray tries to setup a spell that will banish Adrian from her life, she inadvertently falls under a love spell instead.

Charlene returns, having hijacked a new body, for one final battle between the twins.

"Spellbound Soundtrack"

ENTANGLED (S1)
Magic Dance by David Bowie from Labyrinth
This song has haunted my brain throughout the series. Plus David Bowie reminds me of warlock Adrian Montez minus the 80’s hair and tight pants…well, let’s keep the tight pants.

Lightning by The Wanted
Raj McKenna steals the show in Entangled. He is the ultimate bad boy with a good heart, and fiercely loyal to Gray. I stumbled upon this YouTube video and have watched it at least a dozen times all while thinking of Raj. Yeah, baby!

DUPLICITY (S2)

Within You and As The World Falls Down by David Bowie from Labyrinth
Adrian’s obsession with Gray reminds me of the Goblin King’s fixation on Sarah. At the end of book one Adrian risks his own life to ensure she doesn’t disappear. In book two his feelings intensify, but are harshly rejected. Sorry, Adrian, you have no power over Gray.

Bad Romance by Lady Gaga
The confusion spell Gray puts over Adrian requires her to speak gibberish the entire time. She starts singing “Rah, rah, ah, ah, ah; Roma, roma, ma; Gaga, ooh, la, la,” then accidently busts into the Bad Romance lyrics.

ENCHANTMENT (S3)

Barcelona by Giulia y Los Tellarini from the Vicky Christina Barcelona soundtrack
Love is in the air. Gray heads to Barcelona for the summer, meets the sexy Spaniard Carlo, wards off the attentions of the polite British Will, runs into Adrian and unwittingly falls head over heels for her arch nemesis. It’s all good fun!

Les Triplettes de Belleville from the French animation movie soundtrack
Charlene nabs herself a new body in Paris, shows up in Spain, much to Gray’s annoyance, and requests her help dealing with a stalker. I like to call this one The “Twins” of Belleville.
How does it all end? Find out Spring of 13!
